β In 2014, I was struggling to get my first job. I felt frustrated, disappointed, and filled with self-doubt. There were times when I wanted to give up, but I knew I had to keep going. Jobs were scarce, rejections hurt, and prolonged unemployment was unnerving. I wondered when it would all end. π°
ποΈ In this newsletter, I want to share my experience and offer some advice to anyone who may be going through a similar situation. If you're feeling stuck in a tunnel of your own, know that I understand how you feel. But I hope that my experience can help you in some way. π
βοΈ During my job search, I focused on staying sharp as I believed that luck favors the well-prepared. Instead of just submitting resumes and passively waiting for interviews, I spent my days at a public library, studying and sharpening my problem-solving skills through LeetCode. π I also worked on personal projects to strengthen my professional portfolio. I even took on a part-time developer position to gain additional experience. π This temporary role played a critical role in landing my first full-time job at a big tech company. It provided a valuable stepping stone that prepared me for the big game. π’
π¨βπ» If you're a student or new to the industry and struggling to find a full-time job, consider taking on part-time coding work. Not only will you gain valuable experience and knowledge, but the new opportunities may also lead to new possibilities. π£οΈ
